It's been many years since we raced her, but people still ask about the car that started our fascination with motorsports marketing. It was the winningest car in the Caribbean, with a win / loss ratio somewhere north of 90%.
We went close to 3 years without losing a local race. When cars came from Puerto Rico, Trinidad, St. Croix, Miami, St. Thomas, or Grenada came for an international meet, the Hurricane Vega was always the team to beat.
We were the first Angtiguan car to make an 8 second run. At the time, the fastest any other Antiguan car had run, was a 9.65. We blistered that with an 8.76 second pass, a record which did not get beaten for another 14 years.
In 6 years of racing her, only 2x did she lose a race due to a mechanical failure, and we were able to load it on the trailer under it's own power, every single time. At a time when other teams were pulling their motors out 3x per race weekend, or scattering transaxles / engine parts all over the track, we really stood out for consistency and reliability.
Basically, it was an awesome car, and for the Antiguan race fans who are nostalgic for that old green Chevy Vega, we posted this page to pay tribute to her. She really did stand out in the Caribbean as a force to be reckoned with.
